Installation Process

We understand the importance of renovating your dream kitchen and the time and effort you have taken to ensure that the right material and layout has been chosen. When replacing kitchen countertops, clients are often surprised by how much work it's involved. This happens very often when there is a lack of communication between the project manager and the homeowner and is not unusual for companies or contractors to misinform the client on what the process is when doing this type of work. Typically, contractors focus strictly on the kitchen countertops, ignoring all the other critical pieces. Even though this is probably not done on purpose, it does happen.

Why?

The answer is very simple, because contractors are not in the kitchen countertop business! Clients who have had kitchen countertops replaced complain of expensive change orders and lots of unplanned work when they undertake a project and choose to use one person to do it all. The good news is that we have been in our trade for many years and we will be completely upfront from the beginning providing you with realistic timelines so that you are aware of the work in evolved from the beginning and know exactly when the project will be completed.

We try to not steer away from our 4 stage process, which we will outline below.

installing granite countertops

Stage # 1

Before you begin your project, It is very crucial that before VMC arrives at your home,  that you take the time to clear the area of food, cookware, utensils and remove all countertop appliances and accessories from the work area as the last thing that we want is for any of your priceless belongings to suffer any type of damages. It is also a good idea to remove the drawers and items stored in your lower shelving to prevent any dust or contamination, specially if you use these areas to store food as the space is needed to access the old screws for removal and disposal of your existing countertops. We always use this as a main rule as we want you and your family to be as safe as possible.

Stage # 2

This is  one of the most important steps as it is where VMC begins  to disconnect the water lines, drain pipes and garbage disposal to the sink. This is all done to ensure that there is no leaks or to prevent any type of flooding due to a line or pipe rupture. A bucket will be placed beneath the pipes to catch any draining water so we can minimize that amount of water that goes into your kitchen cabinets bottoms. After disconnecting the drain lines, the sink will be removed, and will be reconnected after the new countertops are installed and the new sink is set in place.

**Pro-Tip: Sinks can be heavier than you think! As an example, a cast iron sink can weigh over 100 pounds. This is why  hiring a professional like VMC should be used to prevent any damages or injuries, not just to yourself, but to the stone itself.

Stage # 3

We will begin to remove the existing countertops. It is why steps #1 is as important as the Countertop will be unscrewed from the wall and cabinets, ensuring that there is no damages. Keep in mind that aside from screws, the countertop can also be held in place with brackets, nails or an additional adhesive. This often happens, especially when the existing countertop material was also used as the backsplash. We have years of experience removing and installing kitchens. This is our trade and specialty, and we do not recommend you trying this on your own. So please take your time if you are doing this step yourself to save money as using excessive force  will damage your kitchen or bathroom cabinets and will add extra cost to your remodeling project and is when a dream becomes a nightmare.
